Content Management Systems (CMS)
Content management (CMS) on the Web is the automated control,
organization and publication of any form of content (text,
data, images, business rules, etc.) The Berndt Group is recognized
as an expert firm in the area of content management, familiar
with a wide range of CMS software platforms and best practices
for pre-implementation.
Our content management practice covers the following major areas:
- Requirements analysis and CMS product selection
- Governance and workflow analysis
- Information architecture analysis for alignment with CMS capabilities
- Content object modeling, including syndication and distributed content architectures
- Implementation of templates, business rules, and dynamic elements
- Portals and personalization
- Integration with existing databases, CRM systems, and authentication schemes (single sign on, LDAP, etc.)
Depending on a project's specific requirements, our recommended
approach for CMS can vary considerably:
- For small projects with limited budget and minimum support requirements, The Berndt Group makes its own Java or ASP.NET CMS code base available, allowing for rapid development with limited resources.
- In some cases we recommend Open Source content management systems, for clients who have complex requirements and limited budgets that align with some of the more proven products. Open Source has the benefit of being flexible to extend, but we are clear with our clients about the potential issues related to long-term support.
- A large number of our projects are built on mid-market
content management systems that have full feature-sets
and support complex implementations. (Although for the sake
of expedient development The Berndt Group has partnerships
with a number of mid-market CMS companies, we do not allow
these relationships to effect the impartiality of our CMS
selection recommendations.)
- For large, high-volume, high-content web sites, we work with
enterprise level CMS and portal vendors. These
systems allow us to implement solutions that are appropriate
in scale for large corporations, major non-profits, and
government web sites.
